Kat Penkin - What You Sorry For? (2023)


Running through London, chasing after an ex, belting out a pop banger never looked like so much fun. Kat Penkin puts her detective hat on and follows her ex as he appears to have already moved on. As the realisation sinks in, she brushes it off and asks What You Sorry For?

My second time working with pop artist Kat Penkin on this really fun concept for Random Think Studio. Kat always brings so much passion and energy to everything she does so this was a great collaboration. Shooting out the back of my hatchback around various locations in East London. With next to no budget, we had a small but nimble team and it was so refreshing to just have a fun and collaborative shoot which I think comes across in the final product.

I wanted to really convey the narrative behind the lyrics of the song. The running really emphasises the energy of the choruses but each verse really taps into Kat’s character and an ultimately quite sad story. I was keen to tap into this vulnerability, particularly with the song cutting out half way through, to allow us to empathise with Kat as she questions what she’s doing. There is still humour running throughout and I think it’s this contrast that really interested me about this project.
