I LOVE YOU SPACE CAKES (2018)

48 Hour Film Challenge | Co-Director | Editor | Visual Effects

Nina and Zalu are two hopeless romantics looking to escape the galaxy together. Unable to bear a child, they steal one from the evil General Waz, ruler of the Galactic Union. But Waz is catching up with them and wants revenge.

This short was made by myself and five others within 48 hours as part of the 2018 Shooting From The Hip 48 Hour Competition, in Bournemouth. The film went on to win the Audience Vote Award as well as Best Film, as chosen by a panel of industry professionals.

The theme of the competition was focused on genre. Each team spun a wheel to decide their genre, with some getting a mash-up of two. We were given science fiction and romance genres, as well as the words ‘cruel’, ‘cushion’, and ‘jump’ to use in a sentence in the film. We wrote the script together, tin foiled my friends living room and all acted in this elaborate space opera.

I edited the film on my laptop over two sleepless nights, rushing to get it done in time. It was a great experience for us all to experiment with miniatures, set design and bringing to life a story of this kind of scope.
