Face In The Crowd - dia Frank, Yve Jones (2024)
Set across urban backdrop of Manchester, duo diaFrank explore their relationship and their hometown. Acompanied by lights, overlays, and homely camcorder footage, all adding to the momentum of Yve Jones’s energetic production.
Had an amazing time collaborating on this with Jamie and Anaya, who make up diaFrank. Driving up to Manchester with a few loose ideas, and then really letting ideas flow as we tested out different locations and concepts that resonated in the lyrics. Ben Smith managed to get such striking imagery out of the limited kit we had, and only using natural lights from the surroundings. His visuals along with Katie Linards infectious colour grade have really made this into a special project.
This video was then really made in the edit, using experimental footage I shot on a camcorder to layer the footage and create a real kinetic energy that compliments the momentum of the track. Tail lights of passing cars, specific close ups, but mostly just shaking it side to side and letting the low shutter speed create this delayed light strips that work so well overlayed on the footage. But none of that would have held up if not for Jamie and Anaya’s presence and chemestry with each other. What started off as a performance video, evolved into this beautiful snapshot of a relationship and I’m so greatful to have been allowed to create.
